Switchboard
An Ongoing Investigation into Theatre and Technology
Switchboard is about the space between the physical and the virtual, between the real and the fabricated, exploring the communities we create online, and the people we choose to be within them.
We have used our Switchboard as an exciting creative research project exploring how different technologies can be integrated into a theatre experience.
Switchboard 1.0 at the Brighton Fringe 2016
For our presentation at the Marlborough Theatre we collaborated with Sleekwater Software and created a brilliant piece of tech which allowed us to send recordings as calls, mass texts and also have personalised text conversations with phones all over the city.
Switchboard 2.0 at the Edinburgh Fringe 2016
A 24h community experience for you and your smartphone.
In the 24 version of the piece, the show was designed to sit alongside and within each audience member's everyday life; as they went about their day at the Fringe, Switchboard would be sitting in their pocket, augmenting, commenting on and shaping all they experienced.
For this version we expanded the world of Switchboard online creating our own online forum space where images, sounds and messages could all be received and left by audience members in their own time.
